But 30 years from now when your kids are grown and bring their own kids over for Thanksgiving, you'll hopefully have the opportunity to tell the stories from today. To reminisce on what you'll refer to as "The Good Old Days". And then you'll reach for the photo album...

The Moments We Don't Realize We'll Miss
Right now life is filled with diaper changes, meal prepping, laundry, school work, weddings planning, schedules and routine. We're so busy managing all of these things that it's incredibly hard to find a moment to zoom out and see this time for what it is; fleeting and precious. Even the bad hair days, the stained clothes and the nights we throw a pizza in the oven and call it a day, they're all a part of this incredible story we're writing. A day that might feel like a fail to you because you forgot to pack lunches might be a core memory for your kids when you sigh and take them to get Subway and have a picnic in the trunk of your car at a park.
Life isn't perfect and it isn't meant to be documented that way. The best family photos aren't about perfection. They're about preserving this season exactly as it is.
Why I Believe That Photography is About More Than Pictures
One day, when they've stopped doing the newborn scrunch or the toddler slump, when they've stopped asking to be picked up or tucked into bed, you'll realize how much they've grown seemingly overnight and you'll wish you could remember the small details. You'll wish you could remember how small their hand was compared to yours. And how they laughed that belly laugh with two missing front teeth over a joke they would no longer find funny.
Those are the details you'll be searching for when you go back and look at your photos. It's not about the perfect outfits, the location or the smiles. It's about the realness that comes with an unposed, low pressure, hour of time when the phones are away and it's just you, your kids and the world around them. When you lean into their curiosity and wish to explore, you get to take in those small details and as I follow you around and lightly guide your kids through the adventure, I get to capture those details for you just as they are. That's what lifestyle family photography means to me. It's less about posing and more about remembering.
